SHAMAN SUITE :
THE DANCE OF ENERGY

Shaman I: "Learning the Ropes"

This is the First in the Shaman Suite. I had planned to show a Dance Master able to direct energy around and back to himself, but what I found was an energy that got pulled into the nooks and crannies of his own aura. I learned about the challenges of energy management while in the adventure of this piece.

Shaman II: "Melding the Media"

Something nice and easy to accomplish...just a little smoothing of the ripples,... a little melding of the medium... Here kneels a young shaman easily easing and focusing some energy.

Shaman III: "Inwards Outwards"
This is about pulling energy in and sending it forth. The central source of self in the belly is open for generating and receiving. The hands are the directors of the hearts intentions and the mind is guided by the holy spirit.

Shaman IV: "The Parting of the Way"
This one is very personal to me, the artist...I first learned to 'see' energy out at my retreat in the mountains of Colorado. I practiced disappearing my body consciousness part by part until I was only conscious of energy. Thats when the world looked just like this etching. With just a little shift in focus I could redirect and cut through energies. This is what I do as a shamanic healer...parting the way in and showing the way out.

Shaman V: "Managing the Sphere"
This is about mastering one's own auric field. Our hero can finally stand firmly on his own two feet, saluting the heavens and influencing the earth. 'He is the Master of his fate. He is the Captain of his soul.'

Shaman VI: "The Dance"
These are all mezzotints. They are created on copper plates that are very rough and hold ink in their crevices. The lines are burnished in by smoothing out the bumps so that the ink no longer stays trapped there and that area then prints as white. This process of smoothing the roughness to create light appeals to the healer in me.

This is the ultimate dance; the male and female energies in joyfull union.
